TurnTable Times

Magazine cover and feature spread for a house music publication. I wrote the article and designed the pages.

Role: Editorial design & writing · Cover, feature layout, print production · 2025 · Academic

Cover

The cover runs a two-tone system: yellow for the cover story, white for the masthead, both set in a striped display face that reads as speaker grilles. Cover lines stack down the left so the photograph keeps the right two-thirds.

Feature spread

The feature profiles a Chicago house DJ. A full-bleed yellow header carries the headline and byline, a sidebar holds the at-a-glance facts and a pull quote, and the body runs two columns with room to breathe. I wrote the piece as well as designing it, which meant the copy could be cut to fit the layout instead of the layout stretching to fit the copy.

Carrying the turn

The story continues across the turn with a black masthead band, flipping the yellow header from the opener. Four sections run two columns, balanced so both bottoms land together.
